Climbing in Kochel

The village of Kochel am See is better known for its pristine lake and postcard-perfect views than its climbing. But for those who loves climbing, Kochel is a limestone stronghold — steep, technical, and unforgiving in all the best ways.

The city is around 1h 30min driving from Munich.

We’ve spent just one there and we managed to visit only one crag. Now that we are living in the zone is for sure a place that we will return.

The crag we visit is very easy to access and there is a parking spot near that could fit out motorhome. Price is 7€ for 24 hrs, but you are not allowed to sleep there.

This is the area the we manage to vist a and climb a litte bit:

Motorhomes in the zone

I think that the are is a common destination, not only for climbing but for enjoy the day so as all crowed areas there are restrictions on where you can spend the night. All the parking places in the city there are explicti signs saying that is not allowed to stay over night. There are some camping options.

It is just a place to spend the night, but it is not that bad, and it is still beautiful. The road is not busy at night so you might be ok.
