When we arrived in Poland we headed straight to Krakow and almost by chance we end-up in this amazing park.
A Brief History
Zakrzówek Park’s origins trace back to the early 20th century when it was a limestone quarry. The quarry was operational until the late 1990s when it was abandoned and subsequently flooded, creating the stunning lake that now defines the park.
It is nice to see this type of transformation and how the nature finds its ways to survive.
The Park
The park now is largely visited by locals and tourists and it is indeed an amazing place to spend time with family and friends.
It offers some easy trails for walking in the natures, good trails also for cycling around or running, barbecue, swim and standup up paddle and places for bouldering and climbing. This is how we end-up in the place.
The pool
There is also a public pool in the park that is limited to 1000 places. People will line-up to get in the pool and if this is your thing, better arrive early in the morning so you don’t need to wait in the line under the sun.
There is also an access to the lake, there is no line, but during the weekends it can get quite packed. Again better to arrive early in the morning.
A free toilet with shower is available for free.
Next post more about the climbing in the park.
