Mount Orthys

This was supposed to be a climbing post about crags around Mount Orthys area but this will be the subject from a second post following this one.

When living on the road we are not in a hurry to see as many places as we can in the shorter amount of time which allows us to really enjoy the trip looking for “useless” things that IMO fives another colour to the scenario you are in.

About Mount Orthys

Mount Othrys is a mountain range located in central Greece, spanning the northeastern part of Phthiotis and the southern part of Magnesia. The highest summit of Mount Othrys is Gerakovouni, which is situated on the border of Phthiotis and Magnesia and stands at 1,726 meters above sea level. The region has a low population density, with only a few small villages scattered throughout the mountains.

Today, Mount Othrys is a popular destination for hikers but it also plays an important role in the Greek Mythology

Mythological Significance

In Greek mythology, Mount Othrys was the base of Cronus and Rhea and the other Titans and Titanesses during the ten-year war with the Olympians known as the Titanomachy. It was also the birthplace of the gods and goddesses who are children of Cronus and Rhea: Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, Zeus. It was assaulted by the Olympians against the Othrysians, led by Cronus and Rhea’s six sons and daughters. Olympians later overthrew and restored Othrysians and both gained dominion in all of heaven and earth

It was believed to be the birthplace of the god Apollo, who was the god of music, poetry, prophecy, and healing and the goddess Artemis, who was the goddess of the hunt, wilderness, childbirth, and virginity.

Uranus and Gaia apparently made the castle that resides on it.

This is not a sponsored post but if you are into the Greek Mythology, thise are is a very nice readings
